GoodHack is a hackday; the challenge is to find a problem that people have and find a solution for it (thus making the work a little better). We realized that you can get a lot done if you stick a bunch of developers in a room for a day so we thought, why not try and channel that productivity into solving some problems people have? Basically it's like a nerdier version Jim'll Fix It.

The whole idea for this event came from a article Tim O'Reilly wrote recently about working on "stuff that matters". This article really struck home to us so we decided to put into action his idea's. The core philosophies which we have taken are:

  • Work on actual problems Developers have a tendency to come up with an idea and try to find the problem which fits it. Unfortunately this rarely works meaning were left with lot's of useless applications. A developers time would be much better spent working on actual problems. If you have a problem you want solved, you can add it to the list.
  • Create something useful There are so many useless applications, what's the point spending time and effort on something which will never be used? Instead spend your time working on something people will actually use.

Getting there

The event is being held at moo.com's HQ which is on Old street roundabout. The easiest way to get there is to take the Northern line to Old st underground station.
