Lending a Hand to my Neighbours

submitted by Matt Wynne 11 months ago

I like physical excersise and I'm quite sociable.

If I knew that somebody up my street was moving house this weekend, or had some big heap of earth they were going to move out of their garden, I might well lend them a hand. They would get the help they needed, and in return I'd get some excercise and maybe make some new friends in my neighbourhood.

I think it should be a lot easier via today's social media to match up people who need help with some (fairly short, fairly imminent) task with people who would be willing to help out. There should be some way that I can subscribe to a feed of jobs I could lend a hand with and indicate that I'm willing to help when it looks like I could fit it in to my schedule.

It's a bit like the concept of a 'time bank' but lighter weight, with the emphasis on bringing people together to help with every-day tasks.

I really like this idea; could be done pretty simply as a small app where users have a location, and people post notices that also have locations, and you get a proximity-based feed of stuff going on around you. I'd quite like to have a go at this.
