I want a Facebook for medical records. It would be nice for individuals and their doctors to be have secure web access to complete medical histories. I use Facebook as an example of user managed access control. A doctor or other care provider cannot see a patients medical records until the patient has added that care provider to their 'allowed' list. Facebook's implementation of this functionality is an accessible example, though there are others.
Medical record management is important, especially when people have to move fairly often, such as for their job. Over the course of only a few years, one person may see many different care providers, each of whom would like to review the patients prior medical history and will have more information to add to that history. Providing a secure distributed (web-based) user managed records system allows the individual to access (and allow access to) that information from most places on the planet.
I know there is current research in academia seeking to address this very problem. I think it's going to them too long. This is solvable now. I want you to solve it.
